Kitchen Mister - Restaurant Fire Suppression System

The Buckeye Kitchen Mister is a pre-engineered wet chemical restaurant fire suppression system as defined by NFPA-17A, Standard for Wet Chemical Extinguishing Systems, protecting commercial cooking appliances, hoods and ducts against grease-laden fires - the leading cause of structural fire damage in commercial kitchens.

How It Works The system uses a potassium-carbonate-based wet chemical agent that suppresses fire in three ways: interrupting the chemical chain reaction, cooling the fire below its auto-ignition temperature with a fine mist, and reacting with hot grease to form a foam-like saponified layer that prevents re-ignition. The system actuates automatically on detection (fusible link or electric thermal detector) or manually from a remote pull station at the point of egress.

System Cylinders Cylinders are designated by flow point capacity rather than agent volume: • BFR-5 - 5 flow points, 42 lbs (19 kg), mounts with bracket MB-1 • BFR-10 - 10 flow points, 74 lbs (33 kg), mounts with bracket MB-2 • BFR-15 - 15 flow points, 107 lbs (48 kg), mounts with bracket MB-2 • BFR-20 - 20 flow points, 130 lbs (60 kg), mounts with bracket MB-2 All cylinders are shipped pre-filled with agent, charged with dry nitrogen to 195 psi (1344 kPa), and manufactured to DOT 4BW240.

Systems Releasing Modules The control head required for system actuation, connected directly or remotely to the cylinder valve(s): • SRM2-M - mechanical, single fusible link line • SRM-D - mechanical, dual (two independent) fusible link lines • SRM2-E-24 - electric, 24 VDC, thermal detection, requires SM-24 Solenoid Monitor • SRM2-E-120 - electric, 120 VAC, thermal detection, requires SM-120 Solenoid Monitor Each actuates up to 3 cylinders (BFR-AC-S nitrogen cartridge) or 5 cylinders (BFR-AC-L cartridge).

Discharge Nozzles Misting-type nozzles for appliance, duct and plenum protection, color-coded for identification: • N-1HP (1 flow point, High Proximity) - blue • N-1LP (1 flow point, Low Proximity) - red • N-2HP (2 flow points, High Proximity) - green • N-2LP (2 flow points, Low Proximity) - yellow • N-2W (2 flow points, Wide Angle) - white The N-SA Swivel Adaptor fits any nozzle for 30-degree aiming rotation.

Detection & Manual Actuation • Fusible Links (Globe ML style) - FL-280 (225F/107C), FL-360 (300F/149C), FL-450 (375F/191C)*, FL-500 (430F/221C)* (*not LPCB approved) • Thermal Detectors (for electric systems) - TD-225, TD-325, TD-450, TD-500/600 • Remote Pull Stations - RPS-M (surface mount) and RPS-M-RM (recessed mount), required at the point of egress

Gas Shutoff Valves A mechanical gas shutoff valve is required for all systems protecting gas-fuelled appliances - Models BFGV-75 through BFGV-300, sized 3/4" to 3" for natural or LP gas, max. operating pressure 5 psi (0.4 bar).

Installation Hardware & Accessories Buckeye Shielded Cable (1/16" stainless steel cable in flexible conduit) eliminates the need for conduit and corner pulleys, reducing installation time by up to 50% - Model BFR-SC-100 cable, BFR-SCI interface, CPCT-1 corner pulley for standard conduit runs. Also available: Fusible Link Bracket Kit (FLB-1) and Holder (FLH), Mounting Brackets (MB-1/MB-2), Discharge Adaptor Kit (BFR-DAK) and Valve Cap Assembly (BFR-CAP), Solenoid Monitors (SM-24/SM-120), and Nitrogen Actuation Cartridges (BFR-AC-S/BFR-AC-L).
